　星先生は、何度お会いしても最初のうちは初対面のようにいつもはにかんでいました。そのうちに打ち解けてくるのですが、その様子が久し振りに会えて嬉しくて嬉しくて思わずしゃべる声もうわずってしまったように聞こえるので、だんだんこちらも楽しくなってきます。

　でも話が一段落ついたところで、僕に対してさえも敬語をちょっと使われ、その瞬間すっとある一定の心地良い距離感が保たれます。

　星先生の話はおもしろいのは勿論ですが、ギャグの突飛さには笑うのを忘れてただ感心してしまうばかりでした。

　一時期、夏に仲間達と伊豆の別荘に行くことが恒例になっていたことがありました。星先生の別荘も近くにあり、たまたまその日に先生が滞在されていたので一緒に食事をしたことがありました。

　食後ゆっくりと酒を飲みながら富田勲のシンセサイザーでドビッシーを大音量で聴いていました。その夜は風もなくきれいな月が雲のない空に浮かんでいました。高台から眼下に広がる林のむこうに見える海はキラキラと輝き、右の方からうねるように降りてきた青黒い稜線が、その海に最後は垂直に落ち込んでいます。あまりにも音楽にピッタリの光景に全員黙って聴き入っていました。

　演奏が終わって顔を上げた星先生の目にはいっぱいの涙が浮かんでいました。

　そして｢こんなに感激したことはない｣とつぶやいていました。

　月明かりの中、宴会は続き泥酔した星先生は二人に両脇をかかえられてお帰りになりました。

　泣いている星先生を見たのは我々だけではないでしょうか。過大音量のためスピーカーが一個焼き切れたこともあって忘れられない夜でした。
